The Caged Bird: The Life and Music of Florence B. Price, directed by James Greeson.
This documentary is the story of a woman who refused to accept the limited aspirations that wereexpected of her race and gender. Florence B. Price (1883 1953) was the first African-American woman to have her music performed by major symphony orchestras including the famous Chicago Symphony that performed her Symphony in E minor at the worlds fair in 1933. Price also composed over fifty songs which were sung by the great Marian Anderson in addition to collaborations with Langston Hughes & Katherine Dunham.
